Nisshin (1942)

History

Built from the keel up as a follow-on design to Chitose/Mizuho, but designed as a hybrid seaplane carrier and fast minelayer (including capacity for midget submarines) - its own class, with no sister ship completed. Not to be confused with the same-named armored cruiser Nisshin (1904, Battle of Tsushima).
