Akitsushima
History
Built from the keel up as a seaplane tender. Sister ship Chihaya was launched the same day as Akitsushima (25 July 1941), but construction was halted in 1942 and the hull later scrapped; three further planned units were cancelled in 1944 before construction began. Akitsushima was therefore the only ship of the class ever commissioned.
