Tenyō Maru (1935)

History

A converted merchant minelayer. Originally a 6,843-GRT passenger-cargo liner of the TKK/Mitsui line (built 1935), requisitioned 9 September 1941, converted into a minelayer at Harima, completed 31 October 1941. Sole ship. The year suffix in the title distinguishes her from an unrelated, same-named older TKK ocean liner of 1908 (sister of Chiyo Maru/Shinyō Maru, scrapped 1933) - simple name reuse, not a reclassification.
