Itsukushima (1929)
History
Built from the keel up as a medium fleet minelayer/net layer (Uraga Dock, commissioned 1929) - the Navy’s first all-diesel-powered ship. Sole ship. The year suffix in the title is needed because an unrelated, same-named protected cruiser Itsukushima (Matsushima class, 1891, fought at the Battle of the Yalu River and Weihaiwei) carries the same name.
