History

Fleet minesweepers (掃海艇), identified only by hull number rather than individual names, built 1937-39 under the Maru-3 Programme, replacing the worn-out predecessor No.7/9/11-class boats used against Chinese forces on the Yangtze. Minelaying gear was deleted in favor of an extra 120mm gun. Roughly 750 tons. Of six boats, five were lost; only W-8 survived the war.
