Hiyō
History
Converted from the ocean liners “Izumo Maru” (Hiyō) and “Kashiwara Maru” (Jun’yō), purchased by the Navy mid-construction in 1941. Note: at roughly 24,150 tons standard displacement, Hiyō and Jun’yō are classed by most sources as fleet/medium carriers rather than light carriers in the strict sense.
