Shin'yō

History

Converted from the German ocean liner “Scharnhorst” (Norddeutscher Lloyd, trapped at Kure when war broke out in Europe) - not to be confused with the German battleship/battlecruiser of the same name, nor the WWI-era armoured cruiser. Purchased February 1942, commissioned 15 December 1943, sunk November 1944.
