Yasukuni Maru

History

Built as an NYK ocean liner in 1930 by Mitsubishi at Nagasaki, sister ship of the civilian liner Terukuni Maru. Only Yasukuni Maru was requisitioned by the Navy (October 1940, converted at Kure into a submarine tender for the 6th Fleet, armed with six 152mm guns) - Terukuni Maru had already sunk in November 1939 as a civilian ship after a mine explosion in the Thames Estuary and never served the Navy, so she is not listed here as a sister ship. A class of one for the purposes of this reference.
