Asahi Maru
History
Ex-Italian liner “Dante Alighieri” (built 1914), acquired by Kinkai Yūsen in 1928, requisitioned in 1937 and converted into a hospital ship. Sole ship. Not to be confused with the same-named pre-dreadnought battleship Asahi (also converted into a repair ship in 1937, sunk 1942) or an unrelated Edo-period sailing ship of the same name.
